Editorial丨Modernization will benefit China and the world

2023-12-29

The development achievements the country has made since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China concluded in Beijing in 2022, despite the unprecedented uncertainties and risks confronting it at home and abroad, prove that under the leadership and guidance of the Party the country is still on the right path to modernization.

The 18th National Congress of the CPC in 2012 marked a decisive stage in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects in the country, and the ensuing years have seen major accomplishments achieved in economic development, breakthroughs made in deepening reform, significant steps taken to develop the whole-process people's democracy and the rule of law and notable progress made in improving people's living standards and in building an ecological civilization.

This has established solid footing on which the country has begun the next stage of its modernization journey.

The country adheres to a peaceful modernization path in its pursuit of social, cultural and economic development and the harmonious coexistence of people and nature, and it promotes the building of a new type of international relations featuring mutual respect, fairness, justice and win-win cooperation based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

Modernization is an inalienable right of every country and is not a monopoly privilege enjoyed by a few countries. China is resolute in advocating for the development rights of all countries. It respects the modernization paths independently chosen by the people of all countries, and opposes the imposition of one path as the right one for all, as well as the creation of ideological confrontation and countries interfering in the internal affairs of other countries.

As it strives to realize its own modernization, China will more actively promote high-level opening-up to the outside world, accelerating the construction of a new development pattern and continuing to relax market access and opening its door wider and wider.

It will also be proactive in promoting exchanges among civilizations and the building of a global community with a shared future. Recognizing the seriousness of the climate challenge, the country will not only speed up the comprehensive green transformation of its own economic and social development, it will also work with other countries to address the environmental and biodiversity crises.

Chinese modernization is not just a national ambition; it's a transformative force with immense global significance. The intellectual property right of China's path to modernization belongs to China, but its opportunities and benefits belong to the world.

China's modernization therefore serves as a robust catalyst for the building of a better world.
