Sixty-four years after the first Barbie toy was launched in the market, a live-action movie is finally bringing the famous doll to life on the big screen.

Barbie, the fantasy comedy which stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, opened across Chinese theaters on July 21.

Currently, the movie has earned a high score at 8.9 points out of ten on the country’s most popular review aggregator Douban.

A boldly imaginative story, the movie showcases Barbie Land, a vibrantly colored and female-centric realm home to various versions of Barbie and Ken, depicted as Barbie’s long-time companion and romantic interest in the world of Barbie dolls. Their seemingly unchanging lives, however, encounters an unprecedented crisis.
