Wearing traditional Han clothing and embroidery in a style found in the Mawangdui tomb of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24), 29 couples got married at a ceremony on Saturday night on a popular pedestrian street in Changsha, Hunan province.

The ceremony itself was conducted in a traditional way, with musical performances and rituals. The couples made toasts to each other, and mixed strands of their hair together, symbolizing that they are bound together for the rest of their lives.

A hundred couples signed up for the ceremony, but only 29 were chosen.

Rao Zhiqi from Taiwan and his wife, Chen Qingxiang, a Hunan native, were among the lucky ones.
"I want to thank the special wedding for helping us understand the meaning and importance of marriage," Rao said. "By getting married, we have become a single family, just as Taiwan and the Chinese mainland are also family," he said.

The ceremony was held on Huangxing pedestrian street, a popular shopping center in Changsha. It attracted many visitors.
